NetApp OnCommand System Manager is a browser‑based graphical interface for configuring and administering NetApp ONTAP storage clusters. It streamlines tasks such as initial cluster setup; provisioning storage for NAS (NFS/SMB) and SAN (iSCSI/FC); creating and managing volumes, LUNs, shares, qtrees, aggregates, and Storage Virtual Machines (SVMs); and configuring network interfaces and protocols. Administrators can monitor capacity and performance, review system health and alerts, manage Snapshot policies, set up replication with SnapMirror and SnapVault, and perform non-disruptive software and firmware updates. The tool includes role‑based access controls and step‑by‑step wizards to make provisioning consistent and reduce errors across NetApp AFF and FAS systems, whether all‑flash or hybrid. Formerly branded “OnCommand System Manager,” it is referred to as ONTAP System Manager in ONTAP 9 releases. It’s designed for storage and virtualization administrators who prefer an intuitive GUI alternative to the ONTAP CLI and APIs.
